COLLEGE and CAREER READINESS PROGRAMS

There are many college readiness programs available for students of different ages, backgrounds and future goals. Below are a list of programs sorted by the grade students must be in to apply. 

9th grade

Minds Matter Bridge Program

Minds Matter Philadelphia meets on Saturdays from 10:30am to 2:30pm from January through April. Each student is matched with two successful college graduates who will support their mentee throughout sophomore, junior, and senior years of high school. There is no cost for participation and the benefits of the program include:

-Free ACT Prep
-Tuition-free attendance at selective pre-college summer programs
-Guidance and support throughout the college application and financial aid process

Applicants must be highly motivated and interested in attending a four-year college, have a grade point average of at least 3.0 (prefer 3.5 or above), and graduate high school in 2024.

-Ropes course 

We offer one day courses on our Aerial Team Challenge Course at The Discovery Center, at our satellite ropes course in Fairmount Park's Wissahickon, or at your facility. Participants spend the day engaged in ground-based problem solving initiatives as well as high-ropes challenges. As they tackle their fears, they build confidence and develop a sense of trust and teamwork. Teams from schools to non-profits come together and work to bring the impact from their experience back to their communities.

10th grade

Philadelphia Futures College Connection Program

"This two-year intensive program guides academically prepared students through the college application, admissions, and financial aid processes. As our students matriculate to college, they transition from our College Connection program to our College Success program, which works with them through college completion. Open to first generation to college students in the 10th grade with a 3.0 GPA or higher."

11th grade

B4USoar

Get a head start on your college experience while you are still in high school.

B4USoar introduces Philadelphia Public and Charter High School students to high-quality education while illustrating how they can thrive in higher learning institutions. This program provides junior and senior high school students with the tools, support and confidence to succeed in college while earning fully paid and transferable college credits.

Recognize your potential. Be confident.

High school students who are enroll in one of the B4USoar courses share the college classroom experience with current Temple students. Each class has a Peer Mentor who offers support, technology assistance, encouragement, and tips for planning and transitioning to college. Community professionals provide workshops in areas such as time management, financial planning, career and professional development, leadership and other relevant topics.

12th grade

Naviance-A College Planning Tool 

What is Naviance and how does is help me with college?

  • Naviance is a web-based service designed especially for students and parents. It is a comprehensive website that you can use to help in making decisions about colleges, scholarships, and careers.

  • Naviance will allow you to get involved in the planning and advising process. You will be able to build a resume, complete online surveys, and manage timelines and deadlines for making decisions about colleges and careers.

 

How do I access Naviance? 

Students in grades 6 – 12 to log in:

  • students should go to www.philasd.org/ 

  • click on “login”

  • enter your student ID number in the username box

  • enter your password in the corresponding box

  • click on the “Naviance” icon

9th, 10th, and 11th grades will take the PSAT and 12th grade will take the SAT.
